GITEX Asia 2025, panel "How Close Are We to Quantum Usability and Commercialisation?"

GITEX launched its Asian chapter in 2025. The conference, held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore from 23 to 25 April, brought over 20,000 participants from around the world to the Little Red Dot.

Our CEO, Dr Joe Fitzsimons, was on stage at the flagship event in Dubai last October to discuss the potential of quantum computing. He was once again a GITEX speaker at the Asian edition in Singapore. Joined by Dr Jan Goetz, Co-CEO of IQM Quantum Computers, on a panel moderated by Grace Chng of News On Tech, he discussed the realities of usability and the commercialisation of quantum computers.

Some key takeaways from our CEO, Dr Joe Fitzsimons, during the panel:

  • Quantum computing is still nascent, with rapid progress underway. Where we are today is comparable to classical computing in the 1950s, with steady advances in both theory and experimentation pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, and early practical applications emerging.
  • Recent breakthroughs in quantum error correction are shifting expectations: demonstrations of error correction and fault tolerance are bringing reliable quantum systems closer than previously thought.
  • Software and hardware must evolve together. A quantum computer without a capable software stack is like a PC without an operating system. At Horizon Quantum, we are building that software development layer to enable quantum programming in the most seamless way possible.

As the quantum ecosystem matures, sustained investment in infrastructure, software, and talent will be key to unlocking quantum computing’s true commercial potential.
