On 20 March, 2026, Horizon Quantum began its journey as a public company, trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “HQ.” Horizon team members, investors, collaborators, family, and friends gathered and cheered as our Founder & CEO Dr Joe Fitzsimons and CSO Dr Si-Hui Tan rang the opening bell at the Nasdaq exchange.

In this talk, Dr. Yingkai Ouyang, Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore, discusses compilation by stochastic Hamiltonian sparsification (work he completed while at the University of Sheffield). He introduces a stochastic Hamiltonian sparsification method that approximates an actual Hamiltonian with a sparser Hamiltonian containing fewer terms.

In this talk, Dr. Ben Brown, University of Sydney, focuses on how to perform quantum error correction using a mix of continuous-variable and discrete-variable codes. He discusses the XZZX surface code and its high performance against biased noise, concluding with the threshold error rates that result from concatenating Kerr-cat qubits with the XZZX surface code.

In this talk, Dr. Yvonne Gao, Principal Investigator at the Centre for Quantum Technologies, briefly introduces superconducting quantum circuits before identifying the challenges of building larger quantum devices and proposing strategies for addressing some of these challenges, such as modularity and hardware-efficient quantum error correction techniques.
